And this little piggy went "wee wee wee" all the way home....
The Pig and Wolf Auction raised over $40,000 to support a new playground at Thompson Terrace and an ice rink in Etna!
The Town of Hanover thanks the generous community members, art aficionados, and critter lovers who spent over $40,000 during a live auction last night to take home the 20 pigs and wolves that have resided in downtown Hanover since May.
“Hanover citizens have always been generous in their support of projects that benefit our kids,” said Hank Tenney, Director of Parks & Recreation for the Town of Hanover. “We are very grateful for the enthusiasm we saw last night.”
The pig and wolf auction took place during a gala event at the Top of the Hop that topped off Hanover’s commemoration of its 250th anniversary. Hanover High School teacher Bill Hammond hosted the evening and kept attendees entertained with stories of pig and wolf adventures. The auction was run by Norwich auctioneer Bill Smith, who donated his services in support of the event. The final bid of the night kept the audience on the edge of its seat, as two bidders competed to purchase “When Pigs Fly,” painted by Hanover artist Robin Nuse. After 15 minutes of bidding, the winning bid of $21,000 went to the Geduld Cougar Foundation of New York City.
